Department of Ophthalmology
What is Ophthalmology?
The American Academy of Ophthalmology defines Ophthalmology as a medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the eye. Ophthalmologists diagnose and treat injuries, infections, diseases, and disorders of the eye. Treatments can include a medication is taken orally (by mouth) or topically (in the eye), surgery, cryotherapy (freeze treatment), and chemotherapy (chemical treatment).
About the Department of Ophthalmology
The mission of the Department of Ophthalmology is to contribute to the attainment of the university's Vision and Mission to continuously improve the quality of services in various fields of education, research, and treatment. The main goal of our department is to educate medical students to become general practitioners through hands-on training. Patient care is the foundation and the premier obligation of our department and the highest excellence in patient care is our goal. This is achieved by fostering expertise and specialization in all aspects of Ophthalmological care among our faculty and support staff devoted to our mission. We aim to be at the forefront of new medical techniques and technology developments that benefit Ophthalmological care applications. We continuously and critically review our performance to ensure we provide the highest quality of care.
our courses offer the opportunity to create a highly social learning environment, characterized by participation and interactivity for both students and professors. We advance a strong departmental commitment to Ophthalmology research, both basic science and clinical. All departmental faculty are expected to contribute to a vigorous research effort necessary to support the highest quality of innovative patient care. Residents and clinical and basic science fellows are expected to participate in the departmental research effort. With the involvement of all in the department, we aim to be a center of Ophthalmology research excellence.
